This centuries-old tattooing tradition has received little anthropological attention. While facial tattooing among the “hill tribes” of the Asia-Pacific was prevalent until the last century, it now exists only in remote areas of Myanmar. As the country gradually opens up politically, it remains one of the least-known places globally due to its inaccessibility. Jens Uwe Parkitny’s photographs offer a rare insight into this rapidly vanishing culture.

About the Artist

For more than 14 years, German photographer Jens Uwe Parkitny has repeatedly traveled to remote parts of Western Burma to portrait the last Chin women with facial tattoos, using an analog film camera. He was also able to capture tattoos on film never documented before.

His work has been exhibited in various countries, including Myanmar, France, Germany, New Zealand etc.

เป็นเวลามากกว่า 14 ปี ที่ช่างภาพชาวเยอรมัน Jens Uwe Parkitny ได้เดินทางไปยังพื้นที่ห่างไกลของพม่าตะวันตกหลายครั้ง เพื่อถ่ายภาพหญิงสาวชนเผ่าชีนที่มีรอยสักบนใบหน้า เพื่อบอกเล่าเรื่องราวของศิลปะและวัฒนธรรมขอบพวกเธอ นอกจากนี้เขายังสามารถบันทึกรอยสักที่ไม่เคยถูกบันทึกไว้ในฟิล์มมาก่อนอีกด้วย

ผลงานภาพถ่ายของเขาได้ถูกนำไปจัดแสดงในหลายประเทศ รวมถึงพม่า ฝรั่งเศส เยอรมนี นิวซีแลนด์ และอื่นๆ
